Sonido Tianguis Transnacional focuses on the culture of the sonidero/a,
a kind of DJ or MC who has risen to prominence in the last few
decades. A platform or booth, along with the video and sound players,
serve as an ever changing repository for the gradual accumulation of
materials gathered by local sonidero artists and fans. All of these
materials are accessible to Museum visitors throughout the exhibition.
They include posters, flyers, statements, pamphlets, journals,
CDs, and videos. Every time the work moves to a new venue, the
archive grows in relation to local and transnational migratory networks.
The space where these productions are displayed also becomes a stage
for a local series of sonidero/DJ gatherings (encuentros sonideros) and
dance parties organized in coordination with the exhibition.
